Dolly Parton was born on January 19, 1946, in Locust Ridge Tenn. She grew up with 12 other children. Her imaginative mind helped her escape from life's harsh reality. life. Before she could read or write and compose her own music. Once she had her first guitar at the age 8, she started to play on local radio stations from Knoxville, Tennessee. That following the year that Gold Band Records was a tiny independent record label. While still in highschool, she made her name in the local community, yet she yearned for a larger stage. After graduating from high school in 1964 she moved straight to Nashville. Dumb Blonde (both 1967) as well as Something Fishy were among her first Monument Records chart-topping records. At about this time Porter Wagoner was looking for the next girl to perform on his syndicated television show. Parton accepted the role in 1966, was signed to RCA Records in 1968, and then the Grand Ole Opry was founded in 1969. Parton left the show however, in 1974 due to her albums on her own like Joshua Coat Of Many Colors and Jolene outsold their collaborations.
