Feminist Frequency provides videos, commentaries and analysis of how popular culture depicts women. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer that has received prizes for her work, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a site to educate women about their positions in the pop culture narratives It is the brainchild of Anita Sarkeesian. The site also has the executive director. Aiming to break down the stereotypes that are associated with females in popular culture, she works to highlight issues related to targeted exploitation of women as well as other classes of individuals in the internet world. Sarkeesian, who has a Master's in the field of Social and Political Thinking in the field of social and political thought from York University, is a popular public speaking. She has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. As a university student, Sarkeesian became interested in the issues surrounding gender identity and women's rights in the early stages. The determined lady had planned to launch a web series on the gender roles in video games. She found herself the target of a harassment online campaign. But the harassment did not dissuade her. It only strengthened her in her role as a feminist journalist. She has won numerous awards to recognize her prominent contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award award-winning media journalist. She was also the founder and director of Feminist Frequency a nonprofit educational organization that explores pop culture gender representations.
